LGBTQ+ Allyship & Advocacy – Creating Affirming Spaces

Date: Wednesday, June 19th from 3:00 pm–4:30 pm.

Conference Details:

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, Office of Children, Youth and Families; the Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network; and Independent Living Services are pleased to announce that the 2024 Pennsylvania Permanency Conference will be held June 19–21, 2024, at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Pocono Manor, PA.

The Conference is designed for resource families, kinship care providers, permanent legal custodians, independent living workers, legal professionals, permanency professionals, child welfare workers and others with a vested interest in providing permanency services for children and adolescents. 

Session Description:

Participants will gain foundational information on gender and sexuality, leaving with tangible tools and best practices to support and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community at individual, communal, and institutional levels. Presented by LGBTQ+ Educator Lex Horwitz (he/they). This session will impart knowledge, build skills, and share tools to make us all better advocates for the LGBTQ+ community.

Learning objectives:

  1. Gain an inclusive and affirming understanding of gender and sexuality

  2. Critically think about areas of improvement to better support LGBTQIA+ people

  3. Leave with next steps and tangible tools to put best practices into action in our families, agencies, and greater communities
