Ally Chats

Co hosts, Lex Horwitz and Henry Veguilla address different GENDER topics—all geared towards helping those understand transgender identities, topics, and issues—in their 4 episode Mini Web Series.

Filling the Information Gap

As an out cisgender gay man, Henry realized there is more that he doesn’t know, than he knows, about gender and transgender people. And even though Henry and Lex are both in the queer community, he realized they are in completely different parts—one focused on sexual identity and the other on gender identity.

What many folks don’t understand is that being “gay” and being “trans” are talking about two completely separate identities—sexual identity (i.e., attraction) and gender identity (i.e., internal sense of self of being a woman, man, non-binary, agender, etc. human). So just because Henry is gay and is in the queer community with Lex doesn’t mean that he knows anything about being transgender or gender non-conforming peoples’ experiences.

Henry and Lex saw this gap, so they created ALLY CHATS—an open and mutually supportive space to address different gender topics geared towards helping allies and anyone willing and wanting to learn more about gender and trans identities.

So welcome to ALLY CHATS, a Bi-Weekly Web Series addressing Gender Identities, Topics, and Issues FOR ALL!

Meet Your Co-Hosts

Henry Veguilla (He/Him), the podcast host of This Happened, was married for 15 years before coming out as a gay man later in life. Henry invited Lex, a LGBTQ Educator and Activist, to join an episode of This Happened and one episode turned into two and then two turned into three… Through their conversations, Lex and Henry saw a gap—ally specific knowledge on transgender topics (yup, that’s including cisgender queer/gay people like Henry!)
